The Market Compass is committed to providing an accurate, trustworthy, and community-focused directory of businesses, events, organizations, attractions, and local resources. These Listing Guidelines explain the standards all listings must meet to be published on our platform.

By submitting a listing, you agree to comply with these guidelines as well as our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.


1. Purpose

The purpose of The Market Compass is to help users discover legitimate businesses, community organizations, events, attractions, and services.

Every listing should provide useful, truthful, and current information.


2. Eligible Listings

The following types of listings are generally accepted:

3. Listing Requirements

Each listing must include accurate information whenever applicable, including:

  • Business or organization name
  • Description
  • Physical address or service area
  • Contact information
  • Website or social media (if available)
  • Hours of operation
  • Category
  • High-quality images
  • Logo (recommended)

4. Accuracy

Listing owners are responsible for ensuring that all information remains current.

Information that changes should be updated promptly, including:

  • Phone numbers
  • Addresses
  • Business hours
  • Event dates
  • Admission prices
  • Website links
  • Social media accounts

The Market Compass may remove listings that contain outdated or inaccurate information.


5. Images

Uploaded images should:

  • Clearly represent the business, event, or organization.
  • Be high quality.
  • Be appropriately cropped.
  • Be free of excessive text or watermarks.
  • Be owned by the submitter or used with permission.

Images may not include:

  • Explicit content
  • Hate symbols
  • Illegal activity
  • Graphic violence
  • Copyright infringement

6. Prohibited Listings

The following content is prohibited:

  • Illegal products or services
  • Counterfeit goods
  • Fraudulent businesses
  • Pyramid schemes
  • Scams
  • Fake businesses
  • Duplicate listings
  • Malware or phishing links
  • Adult content
  • Hate speech
  • Discriminatory content
  • Content encouraging violence
  • Terrorist content
  • False advertising
  • Misleading pricing
  • Copyright violations
  • Trademark infringement

Listings that violate these guidelines may be rejected or removed without notice.


7. Business Representation

You may only submit listings for:

  • Yourself
  • Your employer
  • A business you own
  • An organization you are authorized to represent
  • An event you organize or have permission to publish

Unauthorized listings may be removed.


8. Duplicate Listings

Only one listing should exist for each business or organization unless additional listings have been approved for separate physical locations.

Duplicate listings may be merged or removed.


9. Event Listings

Event organizers are responsible for ensuring:

  • Dates are accurate.
  • Times are accurate.
  • Admission pricing is current.
  • Venue information is correct.
  • Registration links function properly.
  • Cancellations are updated promptly.

10. Reviews

Businesses may not:

  • Submit reviews about themselves.
  • Offer incentives for positive reviews.
  • Create fake customer accounts.
  • Harass reviewers.

Users submitting reviews must have firsthand experience with the business or event.


11. Verification

The Market Compass may request documentation to verify ownership of a listing.

Verification may include:

  • Business licenses
  • Government-issued identification
  • Utility bills
  • Website verification
  • Email verification
  • Phone verification
  • Social media verification

Failure to verify ownership may result in removal or denial of a listing.


12. Listing Review Process

Listings may be reviewed before publication to ensure they meet our quality standards.

During review, we may:

  • Approve the listing.
  • Request additional information.
  • Request corrections.
  • Reject the listing.
  • Remove prohibited content.
  • Assign or modify categories.

Approval of a listing does not constitute an endorsement by The Market Compass.


13. Featured Listings

Featured listings are subject to the same quality standards as all other listings.

Purchasing a featured placement does not guarantee permanent placement or exemption from these guidelines.


14. Removal of Listings

We reserve the right to edit, suspend, reject, or remove any listing that:

  • Violates these guidelines.
  • Contains inaccurate information.
  • Receives repeated substantiated complaints.
  • Infringes intellectual property rights.
  • Misrepresents a business or event.
  • Poses a risk to users or the integrity of the platform.

Where practical, we may notify the listing owner and provide an opportunity to correct issues before removal.


15. Changes to These Guidelines

These Listing Guidelines may be updated periodically.

Continued use of The Market Compass after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised guidelines.
